* FORM OF THE PIECE OF MUSIC PRESENTED IN THIS DATASHEET: RECITATIVO
Comment: in this form for voice, singers may exploit the usual rhythms found in habitual speech. This does not mean that it is easier to sing than an aria: the range of pitches, in a recitativo, may be as extended as the one that is found in an aria. Otherwise, this recitativo blends the voice with silences.
* MUSICAL ANECDOTE:
The recitativo comes from the Italian opera. In sacred music, the form was used by Bach in its cantatas and passions, but also by Händel in his Messiah, for instance. It does not rely on a melody, but on a harmonic progression. Also, it is different from an aria because its voice is more fluid.
